About us

#lila_bunt
lila_bunt is a queer-feminist education center led by a collective organization. We offer & host workshops, training courses, education leaves, networking events, as well as political and cultural activities.

The beginning
In 2019, our organization took over the work of the former Women’s Education Center – the Frauenbildugshaus Zülpich. We bought the house together with the Mietshäuser Syndikat, a solidarity-based network promoting collective housing.

The facilities

Our house has two big group rooms & accommodation for around 30 people in 8 single rooms, 7 double rooms and 3 triple rooms. The different working and sleeping areas are located in two separate buildings, making it easy to host one or two groups at a time.

The vision
Together with many allies, we have transformed this place into a queer-feminist, collective-led project. lila_bunt is meant to be a safe space for different generations of people and for those affected by different forms of discrimination, especially women & queers, trans, non-binary & intersex people, and people of color.

lila_bunt is many things – A collective organization, a community space & an education center. As an education center, we offer workshops and education leaves that can be booked through our website. Additionally, we host self-organized groups that book our house and services.

Our Education Program

Our program covers a wide range of topics, from queer-feminist workshops and training courses to empowerment and leisure activities. We usually invite external experts to facilitate our workshops. Each workshop has a certain target group. You can read more about our target groups by clicking on the button below.

For the moment, almost all our activities take place in German. In many cases, it is possible for people who don’t speak it fluently to participate. Please, get in touch with us if that’s the case and we’ll see what we can do! You can find all the information (in German) about our current program by clicking on the button below. Any events in English or other languages will also be shared here.

If you are currently working in Germany, please note that some of our workshops are certified as a “Bildungsurlaub”. The Bildungsurlaub is a paid education leave – A kind of extra vacation that lets you leave work to get professional training while still getting paid. Here you can read more about how this works.

Group Bookings

Is your team, choir, or political group looking for a place to meet, rehearse, or exchange ideas? Do you need a venue to host a workshop, a place for a retreat, or a youth camp? Or are you simply looking for a queer-feminist space where you can recharge your batteries?

lila_bunt offers accommodation, vegan or vegetarian catering, and a place to work for private groups. We can host around 30 people in 8 single rooms, 7 double rooms and 3 triple rooms. Our facilities include 2 workshop spaces (87 and 63 m²), 2 dining rooms, and a big, beautiful garden with a small sauna. The different working and sleeping areas are located in two buildings, making it easy to host one big or two small groups at a time.

Our regular prices for 2025 (including accommodation, seminar room & three daily meals, as well as coffee, tea, and fruits all day long) are:

  • in a three-bed bedroom: 82,50 € per person and night

  • in a double bedroom: 97,50 € per person and night

  • in a single bedroom 122,50 € per person and night

These prices are not profit-oriented – they only cover our monthly personal & mortgage costs. We work hard to make them more affordable in the long term, as we want lila_bunt to be accessible to as many people as possible.

For now, we can offer so-called “solidarity prices” depending on the group's financial resources. Our prices are meant to be flexible. Don’t hesitate to contact us even if our regular prices are not compatible with your financial resources. Sadly, we cannot guarantee a solidarity-price at all times, but we'll try to find a good solution!

Please note: Sometimes we have short-term vacancies. Here, you can see when the house is free in the next few months. Even if you don't find anything, feel free to get in touch with us and tell us what you are looking for. Maybe we can help you or reach out if there is any cancellation we haven’t announced yet!

The lila_bunt network

If you’d like to get involved in what we do, we’d love to welcome you to our support network! Our network is only open for women, lesbians, trans, intersex & non-binary people – or FLINTA*s, following the german acronym. There are many ways in which you can get involved in what we do. You could bring in your ideas & expertise to one of our work groups, help organize an event or take on a project in our house.

The main area where we currently need help (and the easiest way of getting to know us) is during our everyday activities as an education center. We are always thankful for help during the so-called “house shifts”. Some of the possible tasks you could carry out during your stay at lila_bunt could be:

  • Welcoming groups. For instance: Helping organize their arrival or assisting during the introduction of lila_bunt as a project, its basic rules & queer-feminist ideals.

  • Group support. For instance: Being there to answer the questions our guests may have, handing out bicycles, showing where the firewood is, how the sauna works, or handing out hot water bottles.

  • Kitchen support. For instance: Making breakfast, washing the dishes with our industrial dishwasher, helping out the kitchen staff, or setting up the buffet.

  • House-Maintenance. For instance: Mowing the lawn, taking out waste glass, or preparing the garden in case of a storm.

These are some of the tasks we usually need help with. The actual tasks, working hours, and break times will be arranged on-site with our staff depending on our needs & your interests.

During your stay, we will provide accommodation (in a single room or a shared team room), three daily meals (vegetarian or vegan), coffee, tea, sparkling water, and snacks free of charge. We can also refund travel expenses up to 50€ per Person.

You will also have time to experience what lila_bunt has to offer, like sitting by the fire, having a look at our queer-feminist library, swimming in the lake, enjoying the sauna in our garden, having an inspiring conversation, meeting new people, or living our queer-feminist utopia.

If you are interested, have any questions, or want to join our network, please contact us. We'll be happy to meet you!
